Disc Herniation

Disc herniation is a condition of the cervical spine (neck) or lumbar spine (low back) that occurs when the soft, gelatinous center of a spinal disc pushes through a tear or fissure in the discā€™s outer ligamentous exterior which is called the Annulus Fibrosus.

Sometimes called a slipped disc, ruptured disc, or bulged disc it may not cause any ill effects, but some people are deeply affected by this type of injury. A herniated disc can cause intense pain, numbness, tingling, sciatica, and muscle weakness.

Disc Herniation is often the result of age related disc degeneration, in which case it is called degenerative disc disease, it can also be caused by improper lifting, trauma from a fall or blow to the back, excess weight, or even a physically demanding job. In some cases, the cause cannot be determined. Ā At Alpine Integrated Health and Injury we offer a variety of state of the art techniques and treatments to assist patients suffering from Disc Herniation and related pain syndromes.
